The Fire Museum is situated in the historic Royal Fire House and houses a collection of firefighting-related memorabilia from York's past, including vintage trucks, uniforms, carriages and photographs. The grounds also contain monuments and statues to fallen firefighters in York and the firefighters of Septermber 11th.
The museum is housed in a 1921 building that was originally an automobile dealership, with the original showroom space having been preserved in the entrance hall. The facility includes 10,000 sq ft (929 sq m) of exhibition space showcasing the collection of the York County Heritage Trust. There is also an extensive research library and office space for the trust in the building.
This industrial museum takes full advantage of the space available, housing a reconstructed 1830s grist mill with operating water wheel, an A-frame ammonia compressor, a Conestoga Wagon, an Aeronca K Airplane and displays showcasing historical carriages, bicycles, canals, automobiles and more. The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
The Weightlifting Hall of Fame features displays on the history of body building and strength training, from ancient times up to the modern day. Strongman exhibits, film demonstrations and artifacts are also on hand.
